This degree aims to equip you with creative, interpretative, critical, and analytical skills so that you can participate in and contribute to the expanding field of contemporary art.

Why study BFA/MFA painting in RLV?

You will make and study contemporary art in an interdisciplinary, critical, and dynamic environment. RLV College has departments of music, performing arts, and fine arts working on the same campus, which gives you a possibility to understand and interact with other forms of practice.
We will equip you to develop critical thinking, independent thought, and confidence in your practice.
All staff in the program are Practicing artists, Curators, and writers, who will help you to develop your understanding, of how to contribute to the cultural stream.

RLV College is located in Ernakulum, a prime location of cultural activities and festivals in Kerala, including the KMB, Durbar hall art Centre, Centre for art reference and research.

 What you Study:

The aim of the study in the department of painting is to enrich students self and ideas originating in that Individual Artistic Space, and its ability along with the skills to critically analyze the theoretical, the practical in order to look deep into enquires raised by specific areas of the study subject throughout history and at the same time its position in the present day.
Students’ learning will be structured by their own individual artistic plans and their individual artistic positions will be strengthened by the interplay between practical and conceptual projects. The core area of this course of study is therefore the actual artistic praxis, which includes the technical painting and drawing process as well as printmaking techniques( such as woodcut, etching, etc.) students will also gain knowledge in planning and working strategy, presentation, etc.
Students will be able to nurture the areas of technical, art form specific, aesthetic theoretical knowledge and learn to carry out a self-chosen, autonomous development plan largely under their own guidance focusing on individual expression 

Entry Requirement:

BFA:minimum qualification is 10+2 pass. The entrance exam will include aptitude test and interview
MFA: The student should have minimum 50% of mark in his/her respected Bachelor’s degree.
The entrance exam will include a practical test, written test and interview/academic merit.

Facilities:

Students will be working in a well-equipped community studios from the start of the BFA course, first year will be integrated, second year onwards students will be specializing in their area of choice. MFA students will have individual studios from the start of the course.

We have well-equipped printmaking studio and theory classes will be held in the seminar hall. There is no Hostel facility in the campus; students have to make their own arrangements.

Most our students are working as contemporary artists, designers, Film makers, writers, critics, animators, print makers, new media practitioners and are making important contributions in the cultural field.
